Our ego operating from the left brain tends to dominate the energies of our whole brain so that the right brain is unable to express its awareness to our conscious mind…it appears only when the ego is defeated or in a state of relaxation do we realize what we are missing and needs to be developed.

Liana,
Thanks for your excellent link on transcending the ego…I have made a copy of it and plan to post it on my blog soon.
I also see the ego as a survival mechanism necessary for our adaptation but not as our real identity…to me the core of the ego are learned expectations which if unfulfilled is a source of painful disappointments and meaninglessness…I approach these problematic expectations by using a form of mantra meditation repeating the words “let go”and “surrender” in reference to these expectations and the message eventual reaches the subconscious mind and the expectations vanish…essentially it is a form of self hypnosis.

I like the perception shift of what our ego really is. To me it is an interface between the physical and spiritual. We have to be able to survive and identify ourselves as separate to do so. If we don’t survive, then we don’t get to evolve to have the creative spiritual experience that is our potential. As soon as we, as spiritual seekers, stop resisting an essential aspect our selves we can evolve. It only takes a second. I’m still practicing that second over and over though. This is where humor really
does help…thanks, Sid! It’s all important, it just doesn’t have to be that serious.
